At least 20 die, five rescued as migrant boat sinks off Tunisia

In the second migrant drowning tragedy off the Tunisian coast in a week, the Tunisian coastguard has recovered the bodies of 20 migrants from Africa after the boat they were in sank off the coast, the national guard said on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, the Tunisian coastguard also recovered the bodies of nine migrants. Six others are still missing after their boat sank while they were trying to reach Europe.

The National Guard said that on Wednesday the coastguard rescued five others who were on the same boat and that search operations were underway for those still missing.

The boat sank off the coast of the city of Sfax, which is a major departure point for migrants from Africa in particular.
