3.1% growth in Tunisian economy in 2021

Tunisia’s economy has grown by 3.1% in 2021, with the booming mining and gas sectors helping it rebound from an 8.7% contraction in 2020, the national statistics institute said on Tuesday.

The economy increased by 1.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2021, the agency added. The mining sector grew by about 78% and the oil and gas sector by 20%.

Tunisia’s economy has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic after years of stagnation compounded by political unrest. Tunisia, suffering its worst financial crisis, is seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund to avoid a collapse of public finances.
