Tunisia Recognises Zenith Energy’s Ownership of Oil Concessions as Arbitration Intensifies

Zenith Energy has received formal recognition from the Tunisian government confirming that its subsidiary, Ecumed Petroleum Tunisia, holds ownership of the Robbana and El Bibane production concessions, along with approximately 3,987 barrels of crude oil extracted there since 2022.

According to the company, an additional 8,000 barrels remain stored at Robbana. The unsold inventory underscores the scale of revenue lost amid past restrictions on sales, Zenith said.

The admission by Tunisian authorities marks a significant development in Zenith’s arbitration case before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), where the company is seeking compensation for alleged unlawful obstruction and expropriation.

However, Zenith reports that the Robbana field has suffered extensive vandalism and theft, leaving it non-operational and in need of major rehabilitation. The company said the damage deepens the claims filed by its subsidiaries and highlights ongoing operational and legal risks in Tunisia.
