We rely on Tunisia and other brotherly countries to dissuade India from escalation, says Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tunisia

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Javed Ahmed Umrani i, expressed hope that Tunisia and other peace-loving Muslim countries would make diplomatic efforts to dissuade India from escalating in a way that would preserve regional and international security.

Umrani said on Wednesday at a media briefing dedicated to presenting his country’s point of view regarding the recent escalation following a mine attack in the disputed territory of Jammu Kashmir, that his country condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He noted that India’s dangerous policy of escalation could lead to dire consequences that pose a nuclear risk to the region.

He added that his country is demanding an international investigation by impartial investigators, because Pakistan has nothing to do with the incident and is not a potential beneficiary.

However, he added that India has always rejected any third-party investigation during conflicts that often occur between the two countries.

Pakistan, as a member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), constructively engaged with other members in preparing the UNSC press statement on the Pahalgam incident in Jammu and Kashmir and condemned the incident in the strongest terms.

The Pakistani Ambassador concluded that as a responsible member of the international community, his country calls for restraint and remains committed to regional peace and security. However, in case of aggression, it remains determined to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in exercise of its inherent right of self-defense, as enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter.

India began attacking Pakistani territory with missiles and drones in the wake of terrorist attacks on April 22 in the disputed region of Jammu Kashmir. Pakistan has repelled the Indian attacks.
