Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani met on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with the North Africa regional director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to bolster cooperation in digital health, telemedicine, vaccination, and the “One Health” approach.
Tunisia is positioning itself as a continental platform to share its digital expertise and enhance Africa’s health sovereignty in the face of epidemics. Africa CDC has voiced support for this vision and has been invited to actively participate in the TeleHealth Tunisia 2026 congress, scheduled to take place in Tunis from September 29 to October 1.
During the meeting, both sides examined avenues for strengthening collaboration across key sectors, including digital health, virtual hospitals, telemedicine, teleradiology, primary care, vaccination, cold chain logistics, and the One Health framework.
Minister Ferjani reaffirmed that Tunisia—drawing on its digital know-how, experiences, and initiatives—can serve as a pan-African platform for knowledge exchange and for consolidating the continent’s health sovereignty. Such an approach, he noted, would improve citizens’ access to health services and build greater resilience into health systems against epidemics and crises.
The Africa CDC representative welcomed the initiative, confirming the Center’s support and underscoring the strategic value of Tunisia’s experience for African health security.
The Health minister called on African nations to take an active part in the TeleHealth Tunisia 2026 congress, where concrete solutions in digital health, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and health sovereignty will be showcased.
