President Kais Saied Stresses Deep Historical Ties with Oman, Eyes Expanded Economic Partnership

President Kais Saied received Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef at the Carthage Palace on Saturday, December 6th.

At the outset of the meeting, President Saied highlighted the distinguished historical relations binding Tunisia and the Sultanate of Oman. He emphasized that the ties between the two nations are long-standing, deeply rooted, and evidenced by numerous historical milestones. These include the school established in Muscat by Tunisian teacher Mohamed Ali Boudhina in the early 20th century during the reign of Sultan Taimur bin Faisal. The President also recalled the historic visit made by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to Tunisia in 1973.

The President noted that the bilateral cooperation journey, which began in the early 1970s in fields such as education, culture, training, public administration, health, and justice, is now poised for further development and diversification. He expressed his desire to expand collaboration into multiple spheres of the economy, trade, investment, and human resource development. This expansion, he stated, would build upon the mutual respect between the two brotherly peoples and the wide-ranging opportunities available for cooperation and partnership.

President Saied commended the positive results and promising opportunities discussed during the Omani minister’s current visit to Tunisia.

Concluding his remarks, the President stressed that the rapid and profound transformations facing the world today, with their accompanying challenges and changes, necessitate greater convergence and cooperation. “This is essential for us to meet our historical moment and to be active contributors in shaping it,” he stated.
