Malta’s HandsOn Systems Ltd. has announced plans to construct a 350-megawatt photovoltaic solar power plant in the Gafsa region of southern Tunisia. The total investment for the project is estimated at approximately 520 million euros.
The advanced technology group, known for its GPS tracking, fleet management, and IoT platforms, confirmed the investment following a meeting on Thursday, December 18, 2025, between its delegation and Tunisia’s Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA-Tunisia). The delegation was led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Geoffrey Farrugia.
While a precise timeline has not been finalized, company experts have already defined the project’s scope. The initiative will focus on clean, renewable solar energy production, integrating cutting-edge photovoltaic technology and intelligent management systems to optimize electricity generation and distribution.
This project marks a significant strategic shift for HandsOn Systems, representing its first publicly confirmed foray into direct energy production infrastructure. To date, its African and European projects have centered on connected solutions like GPS and IoT deployments, with operations in countries including Italy and Ghana.
The Gafsa solar plant is a cornerstone of the group’s strategy to expand in sun-rich markets. “The project aims to develop the company’s activities in countries with high solar potential,” the announcement noted, highlighting regions with maximal sunlight and growing demand for renewable infrastructure, such as North and West Africa.
Headquartered in Malta with international offices, HandsOn Systems is positioning itself to leverage technological expertise in the rapidly growing solar energy sector, seeking to capitalize on optimal conditions in Tunisia to maximize production and energy efficiency.
