The Iraqi capital Baghdad will host in mid-April the fourth session of the Arab Media Conference, organised by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) in collaboration with the Iraqi Media Network (IMN).

To shed more light on this conference, which will be held from April 15 to 17, 2025, under the theme of the role of media in confronting climate change, and is expected to be attended by about 200 media professionals from the Arab world as well as the Iraqi press, the headquarters of the Arab States Broadcasting Union in the capital hosted a press conference on Friday, attended in particular by the President of the Iraqi Media Network, Abdul Karim Hamadi, who is visiting Tunisia to discuss and coordinate efforts to prepare for this conference, which is being held outside Tunisia for the first time.

The main focus of the conference will be on how to confront climate change after Arab countries have suffered environmental disasters in which thousands of lives have been lost, he said, adding that the recommendations, ideas and proposals that will emerge from this conference will undoubtedly be taken into consideration by the Iraqi government and will be submitted to the Arab Summit and the Arab Information Ministers Conference, which will be hosted by Iraq next year.

For his part, Director General of the Arab Broadcasting Union Abdul Rahim Suleiman reviewed the various activities and themes that will be addressed by the conference, noting that the conference will be preceded by a training course for journalists of the Iraqi Media Network, in addition to the preparatory press seminar for the conference.

The conference, to which a number of experts, decision-makers and civil society organisations will be invited, will discuss early warning for all, the use of artificial intelligence in addressing climate issues, the concept of climate change, causes and risks, how the media addresses climate change issues, the functions of the media in addressing climate change issues and introducing policies and initiatives, the partnership between the United Nations and specialised organisations in civil defence, and the importance of training and training in developing the skills of media professionals.
