AG Energy to build 200 MW solar park in Libya

Libya has granted authorisation to Ireland-based power producer AG Energy to build a 200-MW solar park in the Ghadames municipality in the northwest of the country, Renewables Now reports.

The building permit was issued by Libya’s Privatisation and Investment Board (PIB) earlier in January and marks the first solar energy project in the African country that will be carried out by a private company.

AG Energy is an independent power producer that develops energy projects in Africa with a focus on Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Nigeria.

At a meeting on January 23, PIB and the state-owned General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) decided also to form a joint working group to oversee the implementation of the 2025-2030 energy strategy of the country, which includes projects in the area of conventional energy and solar power that will be financed by local and foreign investors.
