Tunisian olive oil has emerged as the top performer at the 2026 International and European Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition (EIOOC), securing the highest number of gold and silver medals among more than 200 participating brands from four continents.
The three-day event, held from April 14 to 16 in Geneva, was organized by the Global International Olive Oil Competitions (GIOOC), a Swedish-based network that links the world’s leading extra virgin olive oil contests. According to GIOOC, this year’s edition drew brands from Tunisia, Turkey, Spain, Greece, Italy, France, Libya, Croatia, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, the United States, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Jordan.
Tunisia entered 70 brands and walked away with 49 gold medals and seven silver medals in the quality category. The country also picked up 12 awards in the “Healthy” category, further cementing its reputation as a global leader in premium olive oil production.
A panel of top-tier international experts oversaw the tasting sessions.
GIOOC, chaired by Tunisian engineer and businessman Raouf Chouket, used the event to reaffirm its commitment to innovation in the sector. The organization highlighted two upcoming initiatives: OLEATRADE, an artificial intelligence-powered smart trading platform, and the Olive Oil Business School, a specialized institution focused on professional training for the olive oil industry. The school is expected to launch soon in Europe.
