A Tunisian docu-fiction film based on a harrowing true story from the Gaza conflict has been nominated for a Golden Globe. “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, was named a contender for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language for the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, as announced Monday.
The film joins an elite shortlist including France’s Palme d’Or winner It Was Just an Accident, South Korea’s No Other Choice, Norway’s Sentimental Value, Spain’s Sirāt, and Brazil’s The Secret Agent.
Inspired by the tragic true story of a six-year-old Palestinian girl trapped in a car in Gaza after her family was killed, the film has already garnered significant critical acclaim. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival and later won the Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
Beyond the Globes, the film is also Tunisia’s official submission for the 96th Academy Awards and is selected for the 38th European Film Awards, to be held in Berlin in January 2026.
Award Season Momentum Builds
The Golden Globes nomination significantly boosts the film’s profile ahead of its U.S. release. Distributed by the independent company Willa, The Voice of Hind Rajab is set for its U.S. premiere in New York and Los Angeles on December 17, 2025.
The project is a multinational production, backed by Tunisia’s Tanit Films, the UK’s Film4 Productions, and France’s Film Four. It received financial support from the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Doha Film Institute in Qatar.
Featuring a Palestinian cast led by Amer Hlehel and Clara Khoury, the drama highlights the human cost of conflict through one child’s ordeal.
The 2026 Golden Globes, hosted by Nikki Glaser, will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 11, 2026. The ceremony will present awards across 27 categories in film, television, and podcasting.
