The Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) has unveiled the prestigious jury for its 22nd edition, set to take place from November 28 to December 6, 2025. The eight-member panel, comprising acclaimed figures from four continents and diverse generations, will be presided over by Oscar-winning South Korean director Bong Joon-ho.
The jury’s central task will be to evaluate 14 feature films—all first or second works by their directors—selected for the festival’s official competition, a segment dedicated to discovering new talents in world cinema.
Bong Joon-ho, whose film “Parasite” achieved a historic victory by winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes and four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, was celebrated for his unique ability to blend creative form with sharp social critique. His leadership is seen as a testament to the festival’s commitment to bridging the gap between auteur and popular cinema.
He will be joined by a cohort of internationally renowned artists reflecting the vitality of contemporary global filmmaking:
- Karim Aïnouz, the Brazilian director acclaimed for his film “The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão,” which won the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes.
- Hakim Belabbes, a prominent Moroccan director known for his deeply humanistic and memory-rich creations.
- Julia Ducournau, the French director and Palme d’Or winner for her provocative film “Titane.”
- Payman Maadi, the Iranian actor and director, internationally recognized for his role in Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar and Golden Bear-winning “A Separation.”
- Jenna Ortega, the American star of the series “Wednesday” and the film “Beetlejuice.”
- Celine Song, the Canadian director behind the critically acclaimed “Past Lives.”
- Anya Taylor-Joy, the English-Argentine actress famed for her role in “The Queen’s Gambit” and recent appearances in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and “Dune: Part Two.”
By assembling a jury with such varied creative backgrounds, the Marrakech International Film Festival reaffirms its mission to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and aesthetic visions, creating a unique dialogue between cultures and generations through the art of cinema.
The jury will announce its awards during the festival’s closing ceremony on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
