Carthage Theatre Festival Breaks New Ground with Inaugural International Forum

In a historic first for the prestigious Carthage Theatre Festival (JTC), its 26th edition will feature an International Theatre Forum, signaling a new chapter of intellectual exchange for the renowned event.

Scheduled to run over three days from November 24 to 26, the groundbreaking forum will convene under the theme “The Theatre Artist: Their Time and Their Works.” This initiative aims to create a dynamic crossroads for playwrights, directors, researchers, and academics from the global theatrical, artistic, and social sciences communities.

The forum is designed to spotlight major stage experiences pioneered by creators who have left an indelible mark on both Arab and international cultural life. A central focus will be on works that bear witness to pivotal moments in contemporary history and the profound transformations within their societies.

This thematic direction is deeply interwoven with the spirit of the entire festival, which is dedicated to the idea of “Theatre: Conscience and Change.”

Organizers describe the forum as a living space for reflection and dialogue, intended to bridge the perspectives of the creator, the critic, and the researcher. The goal is to foster a rich exchange of experiences, testimonies, and ideas. While embracing diverse approaches and cultural contexts, the discussions will converge on universal values—justice, rights, and freedoms—to collectively examine the place and role of theatrical art in the modern world.

The forum’s agenda is structured around two central pillars:

  • The personal and artistic journey of the actor and director as a witness to their era.
  • The challenges of positioning the artist at the heart of a shifting social landscape.

The scientific coordination of the forum is led by Dr. Basma Ferchichi.

The event will feature a notable roster of international speakers, including Tunisian luminaries Fadhel Jaibi and Mohamed Massoud Idriss, alongside participants from Egypt, Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire, Russia, Italy, France, and Iraq, among others.

Discussions will be moderated by a select group of Arab and international intellectuals, ensuring a vibrant and multifaceted dialogue throughout the three-day event.
