With 2350 tourists on board, “Costa Cruises” cruise ship Costa Favolosa docked at the port of La Goulette on Tuesday from Palermo, Italy, after an eight-year interruption.
Launched in 2011, the Costa Favolosa is one of the largest cruise ships in the Mediterranean, with 1,508 cabins. It is 290 meters long and has 17 floors.
Costa Cruises, founded in the 1940s, is one of the oldest customers of the Port of La Goulette and has been operating voyages to Tunisia since the 1980s.
Costa Cruises’ return to Tunisian ports is a major step forward, Sami Debbiche, General Manager of La Goulette Shipping Cruise (GSC), told the media.
“This is the fruit of two years of negotiations with this company, which suspended its voyages to Tunisia following the terrorist attack on the Bardo Museum in March 2015,” he added.
Two additional cruises by the same company are scheduled for November 2023 and nine more for 2024, pending further intensive planning in the years to come,
“Tourists, accompanied by foreign journalists, will have the option of visiting the port’s tourist village, the surrounding tourist sites, or the Bardo Museum”, he added.
Costa Cruises made over 100 trips to the port of La Goulette at the end of 2010, with more than 250,000 tourists on board, representing 25% of the total number of visitors arriving at La Goulette on leisure cruises, he recalled.
