Tunisia has been officially designated the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027. The announcement followed a vote by the Arab Ministerial Tourism Council during its 28th session held in Baghdad.
The distinction, awarded by the council of Arab tourism ministers, recognizes Tunisia’s profound cultural assets and its rising prominence as a regional destination. Officials cited the nation’s extensive historical heritage, diverse landscapes, and significant archaeological sites as key factors in the decision.
“This choice reflects a broad consensus on Tunisia’s unique offering,” a council representative stated. “From its UNESCO World Heritage medinas and ancient Roman cities to its Mediterranean coastline and Saharan expanses, the country possesses a mosaic of attractions.”
The timing of the accolade is notable, as it precedes Tunisia’s anticipated entry into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2026. Analysts suggest the dual recognitions are set to synergize, reinforcing the country’s strategic push to position itself as a leading cultural and creative hub in the Arab world.
Tourism stakeholders in Tunisia welcomed the news, projecting that the title will drive coordinated regional marketing campaigns and attract increased investment in the sector ahead of 2027.
