In the first five months of 2025, Tunisia exported more than 34,100 tonnes of organic agricultural products worth 420.4 million Tunisian dinars (US$124 million) to 38 countries, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), news agency reports.
It is noted that organic olive oil (87.8 per cent of the total volume) and dates (11.7 per cent) form the basis of supplies.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), about 9,000 operators – farmers, processors and traders – are involved in the country’s organic agriculture sector. Most of them need additional support to improve competitiveness and compliance with international standards.
According to the national strategy for the development of organic agriculture for the period up to 2030, Tunisia aims to become a world leader in this field.
The document focuses on improving management efficiency and expanding the range of products to include essential oils, carob, vegetables, prickly pear products, and other goods.
