Minister of Trade and Export Development Samir Obaid has revealed that a joint plan with Libya and Algeria is being prepared to develop border areas and eliminate parallel trade (the black market) and smuggling.
This came in response to an MP question in the House of People’s Representatives regarding parallel trade and establishing free trade zones.
Obaid explained that Tunisian authorities are developing a comprehensive and effective approach to combat parallel trade and mitigate its negative impact on the national economy.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening communication with young people and informing them of the risks of the informal economy, considering them an effective force in supporting regional development.
The Minister stated that the Ben Guerdane border region with Libya represents a key pillar in this endeavor, as the ministry is working to integrate it into the development project so as to become an attractive investment area capable of creating wealth and employment opportunities.
He also stated that a joint plan is being prepared with Algeria and Libya, aiming to develop border areas and transform them into thriving spaces that provide a decent life and employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
