Tunisia has hosted the African Regional Forum on the Islamic Development Bank’s (IDB) Scholarship Programs, a meeting organized with the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT) to improve the effectiveness of the programs, according to the Tunisian Ministry of Economy and Planning.
Discussions at the forum focused on aligning the training programs offered with African countries’ development priorities and labour-market needs. Participants also sought to identify priority areas in education and training.
The meeting aimed to improve the tracking of scholarship students and graduates and to facilitate their entry into the workforce. It also sought to develop partnerships with universities and technical and vocational training institutions.
Organizers said the forum was intended to strengthen coordination among relevant institutions and promote the sharing of expertise within the framework of South-South cooperation.
Tunisia was selected to host the event because of its experience in higher education, vocational training, and technical cooperation.
Lotfi Fradi, chief of staff to the Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning, opened the meeting. It brings together representatives from more than 17 African countries, educational and training institutions, and beneficiaries and alumni of the scholarship programs.
Mohamed Blidi, director general of ATCT, and Abdelhakim Yessouf, director of the Special Assistance Department at the IDB, are also taking part in the forum, which focuses on skills development and human capital in Africa.
