Tunisia has officially confirmed its readiness to host the 2025 ITTF African Championships this October, stepping in as a last-minute replacement to ensure the prestigious event goes ahead.
The championship, a key qualifier for the 2026 World Team Championships, is scheduled for October 12-19 in the city of Rades. Tunisia often dubbed “Africa’s Table Tennis Hub” due to its extensive experience hosting major tournaments, responded swiftly after the original host, Rwanda, withdrew earlier this year.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Mrs. Faten Tebina, Secretary-General of the Tunisian Table Tennis Federation, stated that the country viewed the opportunity as both an honour and a responsibility.
“Our response was immediate and positive. We accepted the challenge fully aware of its importance for African table tennis,” Tebina said. “Within days, we restructured our organisational team and mobilised resources to meet the demands of hosting.”
Tebina emphasized that Tunisia’s reputation as a hub reflects the trust of the continental table tennis community and motivates further investment in infrastructure. She also highlighted the tangible benefits for the local sports scene, noting that international events have strengthened the Federation’s capacity and provided crucial exposure for rising Tunisian talents like Wassim Essid, one of Africa’s top U-19 players.
The event will feature competition in singles, doubles, and team events. Organizers have promised a vibrant atmosphere for attendees in Rades and improved online coverage for a global audience, aiming to create an inclusive championship that inspires fans across the continent.
