Former Chinese diplomat Wu Sisco has highlighted both the achievements and the untapped opportunities in Tunisia–China relations, particularly in tourism and trade.
Speaking at the conference “The Sino-Tunisian Cooperation Forum Deepens the Foundations of Comprehensive Strategic Relations between China and the Arab World in the New Era”, Wu told the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) news agency that the two countries share common positions on many regional and international issues — a strong basis, he said, for expanding bilateral ties.
According to CEPEX data, trade between Tunisia and China reached around 9.2 billion dinars in 2024, an 8% increase from 2023. However, more than \$214 million in export opportunities remain unexplored. Olive oil alone could account for \$20 million, while seafood and dates could generate \$15 million and \$2.5 million respectively — sectors seen as key to narrowing the trade imbalance.
