In a major address to the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Global Forum on Sunday, the foreign minister called for a profound evolution in global dialogue, shifting focus from civilizational exchange to a foundational “Alliance for Humanity.”
Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, delivered Tunisia’s national statement during the general debate of the Forum’s 11th edition, held in the Saudi capital on December 14-15, 2025.
Speaking under the theme “Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity,” Minister Nafti framed the gathering as a pivotal moment to reinvigorate international cooperation. He argued that accelerating global transformations and a rise in “fear-based and isolationist narratives” demand innovative approaches to bridge divides.
“The current stage calls for a shift from a mere ‘Alliance of Civilizations’ to an ‘Alliance for Humanity’,” Nafti stated, conveying the vision of Tunisia’s President. This new priority, he elaborated, must place human dignity and rights at its core, champion the equality of nations, and guarantee rights to development, freedom, and sovereignty.
The Minister pointedly stated that any meaningful intercultural dialogue remains incomplete without addressing the Palestinian cause, which he termed “the deepest wound in the international justice system.” He urged a clear international stance to uphold humanitarian law and secure the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Nafti highlighted the critical roles of youth and women as drivers of new conceptions for international relations. He also emphasized the urgent need to integrate the digital dimension into the Alliance’s work, calling for new mechanisms to combat online hate speech and misinformation while fostering constructive intercultural engagement.
In closing, the Minister reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to a multilateral system free of “double standards.” The Forum’s unanimously adopted final declaration notably commended the international conference hosted by Tunisia in November 2025 on strengthening the UNAOC’s role in promoting global peace and security.
