Third “Seasons of Creativity” Theatre Festival Opens in Tunis

The third National Festival of Tunisian Theatre, “Seasons of Creativity,” launched on Saturday evening, November 1, at the Fourth Art Hall in the capital. Organized by the Tunis National Theatre under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and in partnership with the Abdelwahab Ben Ayed Association, the festival runs until November 8.

The opening ceremony was attended by theatre artists, intellectuals, and ministry representatives. The Director of the Tunis National Theatre and Festival Director, Moaz El Merabet, emphasized the festival’s role as an annual competitive space for Tunisian theatrical experiments and a platform for developing the art scene and celebrating new creative talents.

He highlighted that the festival embodies the Ministry’s cultural decentralization policy, noting its start in Tozeur governorate. This edition features significant participation from young artists in the official competition, alongside “master class” workshops.

The opening ceremony honored late Tunisian theatre figures Anwar Shaafi and Mohamed Fadhel Jaziri. The official competition includes 14 plays, judged by a committee chaired by Mohamed M’dhioni. Prizes will be awarded for best overall production, direction, text, acting, and scenography.

The festival program also includes open discussion forums, a tribute exhibition for visual artist Adel Mekki, and screenings of works by the honored late artists. The festival concludes on November 8 with a special performance dedicated to Mohamed Fadhel Jaziri.

This third edition initially launched in Tozeur from October 24-30 as part of the founding session of the “South Theatre Forum.”
