Japanese Ambassador to Tunisia SAITO Jun today inaugurated the Japan Festival at the Cité de la Culture in Tunis, in the presence of Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs Amina SRARFI and a large gathering of people interested in Japanese culture. The event celebrates the 70th anniversary of friendship between Tunisia and Japan.
The festival featured a diverse program of cultural and artistic activities showcasing the richness of Japanese heritage, including ikebana (the art of flower arrangement), Japanese calligraphy, the traditional tea ceremony, kimono, and martial arts. The program also featured rakugo, a traditional Japanese storytelling art combining humor and comedy, alongside activities dedicated to manga and cosplay, musical performances, and film screenings.

The program also included traditional Japanese dance performances presented jointly by Japanese and Tunisian artists, martial arts demonstrations, and an artistic exhibition featuring a mosaic and a piano as symbols of Tunisian-Japanese friendship, highlighting the cultural ties between the two countries.
The festival will continue through November 1, with the participation of artists, organizers, and volunteers, in collaboration with Tunisia’s Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Cité de la Culture, and the National Center for Cinema and Image.
