Ambassador of India to Tunisia, Dr. Devyani Uttam Khobragade, praised the prominent position of Tunisian women in various fields, especially science and technology.
During a ceremony held at the embassy’s headquarters in Carthage to commemorate International Women’s Day, which was chosen this year under the theme “Women Driving Change”, she expressed her pride in speaking from the Carthage plateau, the land of Queen Didon, which continues to inspire Tunisian women to break more barriers and stand out in various fields, especially science and technology.
During the ceremony, the ambassador reviewed the careers and names of prominent women figures who were also pioneers in the struggle to break down barriers and give women the status they deserve, as India today allocates one-third of parliamentary seats to women and grants them a number of senior leadership positions.

She stressed that the struggles of women in her country have contributed significantly to change, and the law criminalizes the phenomenon of “ Triple Talaq ” as evidence of protecting the rights of Muslim women and preserving their dignity.
For her part, former Minister of Women Naziha Labidi said in her speech that the history of women in both Tunisia and India is a rich history that is a common history for all women in the world, the history of the struggle for rights and equality. She praised what she described as women’s diplomacy and its role in strengthening cooperation and rapprochement between India and Tunisia.
The event was a celebration of “Indian Tea Day” where guests tasted different types of tea from Assam and Bengal.
The cold weather at night did not prevent the attendees from keeping up with a yoga class before moving on to a round of dancing to Indian tunes, which warmed up their bodies.
The event was also attended by a number of spouses of ambassadors accredited to Tunisia, as well as Tunisian media and cultural figures.
