Indian Embassy in Tunis celebrates India’s Republic Day

The 70th anniversary the Republic Day of India was celebrated with a ceremony at the Indian Embassy in Tunis on Saturday, January 26, 2019.

Ambassador of India to Tunisia, Mr Prashant Pisa raised Saturday morning, the flag at the Embassy in the presence of Indian citizens and Tunisian friends of India.

Then, the Ambassador read out the Indian President’s address to the Indian nation.

The year 2019 will be very special with the organization of elections in India, the largest democracy in the world. More than 900 million people will vote in the elections, including some 600 million young people. It will also be the first election in India where young people born in the 21st century will have the opportunity to vote.

The minimum age for voting in India is 18 years. Moreover, it is with great pride that we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Tunisia with the organization of the Indian Festival in Tunisia under the name “Namaste India” and the Tunisian Festival in India.

The year 2019 will be very special to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth in Tunisia. Mahatma Gandhi is a symbol of peaceful coexistence and non-violence.
