Indian Delegation Explores Solar Energy and Investment Opportunities in Tunisia

A high-level business meeting in Tunis spotlights a major solar project with the potential to create hundreds of jobs, as Tunisia intensifies its push for foreign investment.

A delegation of Indian entrepreneurs, led by Shabinaa Sultana, the Honorary Consul of Tunisia in Karnataka, met with Tunisian officials this week to discuss strengthening economic ties and advancing a significant solar energy investment.

The delegation, which included Indian industrial investor Akkshye Tulsyan, was received on Tuesday by the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII). Talks centered on Tunisia’s business climate, ongoing reforms to boost industrial competitiveness, and the specific incentives available to international investors.

Officials presented high-potential sectors and Tunisia’s pool of skilled expertise as key assets for foreign capital.

A standout topic was Mr. Tulsyan’s expressed interest in developing a large-scale solar energy project. The ambitious initiative is projected to create approximately 600 jobs, aligning with Tunisia’s goals for sustainable development and employment growth.

In response, the APII reaffirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive support throughout all stages of the project’s development and implementation.

This meeting follows a separate engagement on November 17 with the Tunisian Investment Authority (TIA), where both parties reviewed the positive progress of recent Indian investments in several of Tunisia’s emerging sectors.

“The discussions also highlighted the progress made by recent Indian investments in several emerging sectors in Tunisia,” according to a readout from the meetings.

Both nations have signaled a strong desire to deepen bilateral economic cooperation. They have agreed to continue sharing information on potential investment areas to encourage a greater presence of Indian companies in the Tunisian market.

The Tunisian Investment Authority reiterated its commitment to “strengthening partnerships and boosting investment ties between Tunisia and India,” underscoring a mutual strategy to turn discussion into concrete economic partnership.
