The Saharan and Oasis tourism products demand has seen positive results until 20 October 2024.
Data presented on Monday evening at the launch of the first edition of the International Salon of Saharan and Oasian Tourism (ISSOT) in Tozeur show that during the same period, it recorded a growth rate of 6.8 per cent in the state of Tozeur and 9.2per centt in the state of Gabesd.
The French, Germans, British, and Italians were at the forefront of tourist arrivals to Tunisia during the mentioned period. The Chinese market also significantly developed, growing by 630 percent in Tozeur and 453.6 percent in Kebili.
In the same context, the Algerian market is expected to reach about 3.4 million tourists this year, compared to 3 million last year, according to Helmi Ben Hssine, Director General of the National Office of Desert Tourism.
From December 3 to 5, Tozeur is hosting the first edition of the International Salon for Desert and Oasis Tourism, with the participation of 500 professionals in the field of alternative and sustainable tourism, representatives of travel agencies, media and influencers from 14 Arab and foreign countries.
According to Abdelfattah Malik, regional head of travel agencies in the southwest and head of the organising committee, the salon aims to enable Tozeur to regain its leading role in desert and oasis tourism after some time away from this path.
The salon, which is the result of a strategic partnership between the public and private sectors, such as the Ministry of Tourism, the Association of Travel Agencies and the University of Finance and is supported by organisations, aims to promote Tunisia as a leading destination for sustainable tourism while balancing economic development and the protection of fragile ecosystems in the desert and oases.
