Gaza Aid Flotilla to Depart from Tunisia on September 10

The Global Sumud Flotilla has postponed its Gaza-bound voyage, announcing that its ships will now set sail from Tunisia on September 10 instead of Sunday. Organizers cited delayed arrivals from Spain, adverse sea conditions, and logistical challenges as reasons for the rescheduled departure.

The vessels are set to leave from Sidi Bou Said Port in Tunis, in coordination with other convoys that left Barcelona late last month and Genoa earlier this week. The mission, bringing together the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Global Gaza Movement, the Sumud Convoy, and Malaysia’s Nusantara Solidarity group, aims to break the Israeli blockade on the Palestinian enclave.

In Tunisia, the initiative has stirred strong support. Houssameddine ben Taher, a Tunisian citizen, announced he was donating his rare boat—one of only 11 worldwide—to join the flotilla. “Everything is worth sacrificing for Gaza and Palestine,” he said in a video message, calling his decision a duty and a legacy for his children.

The Tunis leg of the operation highlights Tunisia’s symbolic role in the international solidarity campaign, as the fleet prepares to continue its course toward Gaza.
