Energy Transition Index ranks Tunisia second in Africa and 62nd worldwide

Tunisia has shown notable advancement in the global energy transition arena, surging 27 positions to secure the 62nd spot among 118 nations in the 2025 Energy Transition Index (ETI), a ranking published by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

This marks a notable improvement from its 89th position in 2024, making Tunisia the second-highest ranked country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Tunisia is noteworthy for its consistent progress toward a more sustainable and secure energy system, as evidenced by its overall score of 54.6 points.

The Energy Transition Index (ETI) is a data-driven framework that assesses how 118 countries are positioned to navigate the evolving energy landscape. The index measures both system performance (security, equity, and sustainability outcomes) and transition readiness (enablers of progress, including regulations, political commitment, finance and investment, education and human capital, infrastructure, and innovation) to generate an ETI score.

The report indicates that Tunisia is well-positioned to hasten its shift to renewable energy, notably in terms of the framework and preparedness of its energy infrastructure. The country performed well in areas such as system performance, security, sustainability, and equity. However, there is an ongoing need to strengthen governance and enhance innovation and investment.

Tunisia ranks just behind Saudi Arabia (60th with 55.0 points) and ahead of the United Arab Emirates (48th with 58.4 points) in the MENA region.
