The official poster for the documentary “Souraya Mon Amour” has been unveiled, heralding its world premiere in the prestigious International Competition of the 46th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), running from November 12-21.
The newly released poster and a second teaser build anticipation for director Nicolas Khoury’s intimate film, which explores the profound connection between dancer and actress Souraya Baghdadi and her late husband, the celebrated Lebanese filmmaker Maroun Baghdadi.
The documentary promises a poignant journey, weaving together archival footage and personal reflection. Souraya Baghdadi revisits her shared life with the director, who left an indelible mark on Arab cinema. Through a lens of “tender introspection,” the film uncovers the enduring power of love amidst loss.
Converging a Personal Story with a Cinematic Legacy
“Souraya Mon Amour” traces a path where Souraya’s intimate narrative converges with the creative legacy of Maroun Baghdadi. The film reopens memory’s windows onto the director’s groundbreaking work, which chronicled the Lebanese civil war in seminal films like Little Wars (1982) and Out of Life (1991). The latter earned the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, cementing his status as one of the Arab world’s most influential filmmakers.
Starring Souraya Baghdadi, the film is written and directed by Nicolas Khoury. The screenplay was developed in collaboration with Souraya Baghdadi herself, incorporating the personal letters of Maroun Baghdadi.
The production boasts a strong international and regional backing. It is produced by Jana Wehbe of The Attic Productions, with co-production by Aya Al Blouchi, Marine Vaillant, and Souraya Baghdadi. The project gained significant momentum through participation in major industry platforms, including the IDFA Academy, Amman Industry Days, and the Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival.
Financial support was provided by key regional institutions, including the Doha Film Institute, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), and Cultural Resource (Mawred).
