Ministers of AU Member States will meet for the Fifth Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee No. 8 (STC-No8) on 20 December 2024, in Tunis, Tunisia, in order to renew the Bureau of the AU-STC no 8, to inform on the achievement made by the outgoing Bureau during its term (2023 – 2024) and to deliberate and approve programs for the three (3) Subcommittees of AU-STC no 8 for the period 2025- 2026.
Ahead of the STC8 5th Ordinary Session that will bring Ministers from AU Member states and Technical partners and organizations, the African Union Commission Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security first convenes the second bureau meeting of the STC-no8 at expert level on 16-17 December 2024 and at ministerial level on 19 December 2024, which brings together the current Bureau Members (Chairperson: (Republic of Tunisia), 1st Vice-Chair: Minister of Lands, Housing an (Republic of Uganda), 2nd Vice-President: (Republic of Congo), 3rd Vice-Chair: (Republic of Ghana); and Rapporteur:(Kingdom of Lesotho).
The main objective of the Fifth Ordinary Session of AU-STC No 8 is to provide a common platform for ministers of the public service / administration; decentralization and local government; Housing and Urban Development and their Senior Officials, to appreciate progress made by the outgoing AU-STC No 8 Bureau during its term (2023-2024) and approve programs for the three (3) Subcommittees that wil be implemented during the Fourth Term (2025 – 2026).
At the conclusion of the 5th Ordinary Session, the expected outcomes are: renewal of the AU-STC No. 8 Bureau for the 2025-2026 term, assessment of the AU-STC No. 8 achievements and challenges from 2022-2024, , adoption of the AU-STC No. 8 work plan for 2025-2026, enhancement of strategies for signature, ratification and implementation of the African Charters on Public service and Decentralization, guidance on the implementation of the declaration of the inaugural Africa Urban Forum, and enhancement of synergy among AU-STC No. 8 three subcommittees.
