180 industry stakeholders participate, 21,000 visitors expected
Minister of Equipment and Housing Salah Zouari and Minister of Environment Habib Obeid inaugurated the 10th edition of the African Oil, Gas and Renewable Energies Exhibition “AFRICA BIG 5”, whose theme this year is the road to a green economy and sustainable development.
Organized by the Ministry of Equipment and attended by the Ministries of Industry and Environment of Tunisia and Libya and a number of international companies from Algeria, Libya, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Singapore, Italy, France, Turkey, Belgium and others, the exhibition will be held until April 11, where industrialists and experts gather to present the latest developments in the energy sector in all its fossil, renewable and green forms, transportation, infrastructure and others.
Exceptionally, this year’s pavilions will showcase four other industries closely related to the energy sector: logistics, transportation, smart mobility, traffic management and parking, road infrastructure and public works, and clean and green energy.
So far, 180 public and private companies operating in the energy sector and specializing in the oil industry have participated in this edition, while organizers hope to register 20,000 visitors during the days of the exhibition.
Petroafrica is a joint exhibition between Tunisia and Libya that takes place every year in one of the two countries, and has chosen to take place in this tenth edition at the Exhibition Center in Karam, Tunis, Tunisia.
Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) is the main partner with Tunisia in organizing Petroafrica, bringing with it dozens of subsidiaries and a number of North African oil production and marketing experts.
In media statements on Tuesday, exhibition director Basma Al-Hamidi explained that such joint events have given more radiation to the North African region in the field of energy, especially since the exhibition began to take a global trend with the participation of 50% of exhibitors from different countries, including India, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Italy, Algeria, China, Egypt, sub-Saharan Africa, France, Bahrain and Singapore.
The four-day event will feature scientific sessions and lectures presented by professors and experts in the field of energy and logistics from Tunisia, Algeria and Libya, most of which revolve around the theme “The Road to Green Thinking” or how to succeed in crossing over to clean energies for the sustainability of the sector, which the three countries (Tunisia, Algeria and Libya) are working on within a joint international committee consisting of the National Oil Corporation of Libya, Sonatrach (Algeria) and the Tunisian Company for Petroleum Activities (Société Tunisienne des Activités Petrolières).
The scheduled lectures address topics related to oil and gas production conditions, the relationship between oil and gas and green hydrogen, the importance of decarbonization within industrial enterprises, carbon footprint measurement, marine insurance for the transportation of hazardous products, intermodal and combined transport, transportation management, road infrastructure, tomorrow’s smart cities, water treatment, and working towards creating future cities in North Africa that are green and clean by 2050.
