A Tunisian Journalist’s Journey into the Heart of Indian Civilization

By Douha Essaafi

As a Tunisian journalist, I recently had the unique privilege of being invited by the Ministry of External Affairs of India to visit this incredible country and explore its rich cultural and historical heritage. This journey was more than a professional assignment — it was a deep dive into one of the world’s oldest and most vibrant civilizations.

From the moment I landed in India, I was captivated by its harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. Every corner of the cities I visited — from the bustling streets of Delhi to the green, serene spaces of Bengaluru — whispered stories of ancient wisdom, resilience, and an ever-evolving identity.

One of the most unforgettable highlights of my trip was my visit to the National Museum in New Delhi. This iconic institution houses a treasure trove of artifacts that speak volumes about India’s profound history. Walking through its spacious galleries, I encountered awe-inspiring pieces — from intricately carved statues and relics from the Indus Valley Civilization to sacred manuscripts, textiles, and ancient weapons. Each exhibit was not just a historical object, but a testament to India’s unmatched contribution to human knowledge, art, and spirituality.

Standing before a 2,000-year-old sculpture or an ancient coin, I felt connected to centuries of human endeavor and creativity. The museum is not merely a collection of artifacts; it is a living narrative of a civilization that continues to influence the world.

As my journey in India comes to an end, I carry back with me not only stories and notes, but a deeper understanding of a country that celebrates diversity, resilience, and culture at every turn.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to Her Excellency the Ambassador of India to Tunisia and to the Ministry of External Affairs of India for their generous invitation and warm hospitality. This experience has left an indelible mark on both my personal and professional life.
