The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) celebrated its 50th anniversary in the Tunisian coastal city of Hammamet on Tuesday, unveiling the “Arabsat 50” satellite to mark five decades of advancing satellite communications and broadcasting across the Arab world.
The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 26th Arab Radio and Television Festival, taking place in Tunis from September 21 to 24, and was attended by a number of Arab and foreign ambassadors accredited to Tunisia, including Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Buraithen.
The event highlighted Arabsat’s five-decade journey and its contributions to supporting the Arab media and satellite broadcasting sectors, strengthening space communications infrastructure, and developing long-standing partnerships with the Arab States Broadcasting Union and Arab media institutions. It also underscored the organization’s efforts to keep pace with rapid technological developments and the evolving landscape of media and communications.
In a video address, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Satellite Communications Organization Haitham Al-Ohali said that Arabsat’s achievements today are the result of sustained efforts that have enabled the organization to become a close and trusted partner across the Arab world.
He added that Arabsat is looking to the future with greater ambition by continuing to keep pace with rapid technological advances, expanding its activities, and developing strategic partnerships that strengthen its presence and role in the satellite communications and space industries.
The unveiling of “Arabsat 50” marks a milestone in the organization’s five-decade journey, reflecting its continued commitment to innovation, technological advancement, and strengthening its role within the Arab region’s satellite communications and media ecosystem.
