Libya and Tunisia Activate Key Free Trade Provisions, Including Electronic Certificates of Origin

Libya and Tunisia have begun implementing core elements of their bilateral free trade agreement, including the introduction of electronic certificates of origin and the reactivation of the joint customs crossing, according to official announcements.

The agreement further strengthens cross-border cooperation in combating smuggling and commercial fraud, with both nations agreeing to enhance security coordination and information sharing. The joint efforts aim to target illegal trade networks and improve overall border security.

Additional measures under the accord include the adoption of the “Send–Receive” document for exports, a review of restrictions on foreign goods transported by land, and the introduction of logistical and procedural facilitations designed to streamline trade and ease truck movement across border crossings.

The two sides are also continuing consultations to advance the long-discussed Ben Guerdane Free Trade Zone project, with an eye toward stimulating economic activity in border areas.
