China, Tunisia Pledge to Deepen Strategic Partnership During High-Level Visit

From November 26 to 28, a high-level Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Mu Hong, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), conducted a working visit to Tunisia aimed at bolstering the recently elevated strategic partnership between the two nations.

During the three-day visit, Mr. Mu, who also heads the CPPCC’s China-Africa Friendship Group, held talks with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti and Imed Darbali, President of the National Council of Regions and Districts. The itinerary also included inspections of ongoing China-Tunisia cooperation projects.

In discussions, Mr. Mu highlighted the upgrade of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in May of last year, calling it a milestone. “China is ready to work with the Tunisian side to implement the important consensus reached by both countries’ leaders and the outcomes of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing,” he stated, emphasizing a commitment to strengthening practical cooperation.

The Tunisian side reaffirmed its foundational diplomatic stance. Foreign Minister Nafti stressed Tunisia’s firm adherence to the one-China principle. He also congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee and expressed Tunisia’s desire to enhance strategic alignment and expand sectoral cooperation with China.

Echoing the focus on economic collaboration, Imed Darbali conveyed an expectation for increased Chinese investment. He expressed hopes that more Chinese enterprises would choose Tunisia for business ventures. Darbali also noted the willingness of his institution to enhance exchanges with the CPPCC National Committee to jointly promote the high-quality development of the bilateral relationship.

The visit underscores both nations’ intent to translate high-level diplomatic commitments into tangible cooperative outcomes across political, economic, and regional domains.
