Tunisia’s Carthage Theatre Days Unveils 2025 Program Focused on Social Change

The organizing committee for the Carthage Theatre Days (JTC) unveiled the program for its 26th edition during a press conference at the City of Culture on Thursday, setting the stage for the festival to run from November 22 to 29 in the capital.

Under the banner “Theatre, a Conscience and a Change. Theatre, the Beating Heart of the Street,” this year’s event aims to position the stage as a vital force for social reflection.

“The selected plays and works this year reflect us, with concerns common to the peoples of the Global South,” stated Mohamed Mounir Argui, the festival’s Artistic Director and head of the organizing committee. He highlighted significant participation from Latin American nations like Colombia and Mexico as evidence of this shared focus.

A cornerstone of the festival will be an International Theatre Forum, scheduled for November 24-26. The forum, themed “The Theatre Artist, Their Time, and Their Work,” will gather a diverse group of playwrights, directors, and scholars from around the world. Confirmed participants include Tunisian luminaries Fadhel Jaïbi and Ezzeddine Madani, alongside international figures such as Egypt’s Khaled Galal, Morocco’s Latefa Ahrrare, Colombia’s María Adelaida Palacio, and France’s Patrice Pavis.

Seifeddine Ferchichi, the head of programming, reaffirmed the festival’s core identity as “essentially Arab and African,” with the official competition being its central axis.

Twelve productions have been selected to compete for top honors, representing countries including Ivory Coast, South Africa, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Tunisia.

The host nation will be represented by two productions: Jacaranda, directed by Nizar Saaidi and produced by the Tunisian National Theatre, and Les Fugueuses (The Runaways), directed by Wafa Taboubi and produced by Fabula Production.
