Tunisian ambassador to Libya, Lasaad Lajili, met with Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), Eng. Mustafa Abdallah Sanalla.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss means to strength the two countries’ cooperation in the oil sector.
The Tunisian ambassador visited the NOC headquarters at Tripoli, at the invitation of the Corporation’s Head, read a statement issued by the NOC on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
The two official discussed ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the NOC and Tunisian companies in the field of oil, energy and mechanical engineering.
“Tunisian companies are seeking to enter the Libyan market with the aim of implementing many important projects in the oil sector,” said Lajili.
In turn, NOC official Mustafa Sanalla said that, “the Libyan oil sector is promising and presents enormous opportunities for the participation of Tunisian companies.”
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to coordinate the organisation of an enlarged workshop gathering the National Oil Corporation with Tunisian companies and businessmen, to get acquainted with the requirements of the Libyan oil sector and the projects need to improve the national economy.
Trade has been important for the Tunisian and Libyan economies. In 2018, the value of trade exchange between the two countries reached 1.2 billion Tunisian dinars ($373 million).
In March 2019, Tunisia and Libya established the first free-trade zone in the Shusha region, 11 kilometres from the Libyan border. The Tunisian authorities aim to integrate the free-trade zone by establishing the unregulated market into the organised trade system, creating 2,000 direct and 6,000 indirect job opportunities.
