Two new solar projects worth around $15 million launched in Tunisia as part of its plans to expand the use of renewable energy

Tunisia has launched two new solar projects worth around $15 million as part of plans to expand the use of renewable energy. The projects in the west-central Kasserine governorate, which are expected to be completed by the end of 2025, will each have a capacity of 10 MW and are the latest in a series of solar energy projects announced by the government for 2024.

According to a newspaper report, the government has recently signed contracts for two larger solar power projects for the production of 300 MW, worth nearly 800 million Tunisian dinars ($258 million).

The projects are located in Gafsa in central Tunisia and in the southern governorate of Tataouine. Other projects are underway in the country with a target production of 500 MW.

“All these projects are part of a strategy developed by the government to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 35% by 2030 and to encourage investment in such projects,” the report said.
