At a public-private forum organised by CONECT’s Groupement Professionnel de l’Industrie Cinématographique, an ambitious action plan was presented, aimed at fundamentally transforming the industry and turning it into a lever for economic and cultural growth.
This action plan, the result of several months of consultation between players in the sector and the public authorities, proposes a clear roadmap for the development of Tunisian cinema. It focuses on several strategic areas:
Easier access to funding: To support film creation and production, new funding mechanisms will be put in place. The film investment incentive fund, entrusted to the Tunisian Investment Fund, will be strengthened, offering new opportunities to producers.
Modern infrastructure: To meet the needs of a rapidly expanding industry, the plan provides for the modernisation of film studios and the refurbishment of cinemas throughout the country. The aim is to provide professionals in the sector with high-performance working tools and to give the public easier access to film culture.
Balanced regional development: Cinema will no longer be confined to Tunis. The plan provides for the creation of film centres in the regions, in order to promote balanced economic development and enhance the cultural specificities of each region.
Greater international appeal: Tunisia will be positioned as a destination of choice for international film shoots. A ‘Tunisia Film Commission’ will be set up to facilitate administrative procedures and promote the country’s assets to foreign producers.
Adapted legislation: The legislative framework governing the film sector will be modernised to adapt to current challenges and encourage the emergence of new forms of creation.
This action plan responds to several major challenges:
Stimulating creativity: This plan will enable Tunisian creators to freely express their talent by facilitating access to funding and providing modern infrastructure.
Creating jobs: The development of the film sector will have a positive impact on employment, particularly in the fields of production, technology and distribution.
Enhancing cultural heritage: Cinema is a powerful vehicle for cultural transmission. By supporting the production of Tunisian films, this plan will help to preserve and promote our heritage.
Attracting investment: This plan will help attract capital and develop new co-productions by offering attractive conditions to foreign investors.
The success of this action plan requires the commitment of all players: public authorities, industry professionals, investors and civil society. This is why the forum organised by CONECT was an opportunity to launch a call for mobilisation and cooperation.
