Tunisia Showcases Potential at Algiers’ Intra-African Trade Fair

Algiers on Thursday launched the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair, running until September 10 at the Abdel Latif Rahal International Conference Centre, in the presence of several Arab and African leaders, including Tunisian President Kais Saied.

Opening the event, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called for stronger African unity to secure the continent’s role in global economic decision-making, warning of growing international instability and the risk of Africa’s marginalisation despite its vast resources. He described the fair as an expression of collective determination to build a powerful and effective Africa.

Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah and the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) underlined the fair’s role in empowering small businesses, boosting regional value chains, and accelerating digital trade. It was also announced that Lagos will host the next edition in 2027.

In his address, President Kais Saied urged the establishment of a new global system based on sovereignty, peace, and equitable use of Africa’s resources, stressing the need for the continent to learn from past mistakes and embrace new approaches for its future.

Tunisia is participating with a 304 m² national pavilion showcasing more than 24 exporting institutions across textiles, leather, cosmetics, construction materials, handicrafts, and automotive components. National bodies including the AfCFTA Committee, Chambers of Commerce, and investment and tourism agencies are also represented.

Workshops on Tunisia, including a dedicated session on its automotive industry and strategy within the AfCFTA framework, are scheduled during the fair. The Tunisian delegation includes the Ministers of Trade, Industry, Energy, and Mines, highlighting the country’s ambition to strengthen its role in intra-African trade through food industries, technology, health, and renewable energy.
