Tunisia Ranked Among Africa’s Top 5 Countries for Education by The African Exponent

Tunisia has been ranked 5th in Africa and 74th globally in a new education index published by The African Exponent, a platform specializing in economic analysis and continental rankings.

The report highlights Tunisia’s strong performance in terms of education quality and accessibility, placing it among the top five African countries with the best education systems in the world. Leading the African list is Egypt, followed by Morocco (55th globally), Kenya (71st), and Ghana in fourth place.

According to The African Exponent, Tunisia has made notable strides in inclusive education policies and improving the status of educators, thanks to a comprehensive national strategy that positions schools as central pillars of both social and economic development.

Recent reforms have also aimed at aligning higher education with labor market needs, including the integration of human rights education into university curricula.

But what sets Tunisia apart, the report notes, is its forward-thinking approach to educational innovation. It is one of the few African nations to have launched a structured national dialogue on the use of artificial intelligence in education. Several pilot programs are already underway to explore how AI can enhance learning, improve school administration, and support teacher training.

Despite these advancements, Tunisia fell just behind Egypt and its North African neighbors, with Algeria ranking 6th in Africa. The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.

The ranking reflects both the progress and the challenges Tunisia faces as it seeks to modernize its education system in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
