Algeria’s El Eid Derdabo Wins the Title of Best Arab Innovator in Qatar Foundation’s Edutainment Program
The seventeenth season of Stars of Science, a Qatar Foundation initiative, concluded with resounding success, celebrating innovation, perseverance, and the spirit of Arab creativity. The educational entertainment program—designed to inspire young minds through science, innovation, and entrepreneurship—announced El Eid Derdabo from Algeria as the Best Arab Innovator. The grand finale served as a remarkable tribute to months of hard work, learning, and prototype development.

In a moment of triumph, Khalid Al-Jumaily revealed Derdabo’s winning invention, “VIDA”, a system integrated into a smartwatch that monitors vital signs to detect vitamin D levels and assists users in the early detection of depression and anxiety disorders, allowing for preventive measures before symptoms appear. The jury praised the invention for its seamless blend of biotechnology and mental health, addressing a global challenge through smart and accessible innovation.
Reflecting on his win, Derdabo shared:
“This victory carries a deeply personal meaning—it was born from a human experience close to my heart and evolved into a mission to protect others from feelings of helplessness. Stars of Science has given me the belief that compassion and science together can save lives. This award is not the end of the road, but the beginning of a new journey of hope.”
Razaan Salem Bahabri from Saudi Arabia earned second place with her project “Tel’ab”, a wearable rehabilitation system inspired by gaming technology. By turning physical therapy into an interactive, data-driven experience, Bahabri’s innovation allows patients to recover through play while enabling doctors to monitor their progress remotely. Her project marks a major leap forward in digital health, presenting an innovative and effective solution for home-based recovery.
Congratulating the finalists, Ramah Al-Qadheeqi, Chair of Qatar Science & Technology Park, expressed her pride:
“Each innovator this season showcased the transformative power of purposeful science. Their inventions combined creativity, empathy, and profound impact—the very qualities our world needs today. At Qatar Science & Technology Park, we are proud to support Stars of Science in its ongoing mission to turn ideas into solutions that enhance quality of life, inspire future generations, and strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem.”
