Norwegian renewable energy developer Scatec will build a 120 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in the Remada Ouest area of Tunisia’s Tataouine governorate, with an estimated investment of €80 million.
The project, expected to be operational by the end of 2028, will span 200 hectares and generate approximately 260 GWh annually — enough to power around 200,000 people. It includes a 2-km, 225-kV transmission line connecting to the STEG grid.
The plant is expected to avoid 130,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year and create 10 to 15 permanent jobs once operational.
Scatec secured the project through a tender and signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Tunisia’s state utility STEG in January 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in Q2 2027 and take 15 to 18 months.
The Remada Ouest project supports Tunisia’s goal of achieving 35% renewable energy in national electricity generation by 2030. It is separate from Scatec’s Sidi Bouzid II project, developed in partnership with Japan’s Toyota Tsusho subsidiary Aeolus.
