Moroccan Healthcare Giant Akdital Expands into Tunisia with $90 Million Hospital Acquisition

Casablanca-listed private healthcare operator Akdital has announced a strategic move into Tunisia, agreeing to purchase the Taoufik Hospitals Group (THG) for $90 million. The deal, disclosed on Tuesday, marks a significant step in the company’s North African expansion.

The acquisition, pending regulatory approvals, will transfer control of THG’s four hospitals to Akdital, adding approximately 600 beds to its portfolio. This purchase establishes a direct foothold for the Moroccan provider in the Tunisian market.

The announcement follows closely on Akdital’s aggressive push into the Gulf region. Earlier this month, the company signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire Al Bishri Hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This comes after its earlier takeover of Al Mishari Hospital in Riyadh. Akdital has outlined ambitious plans for the Saudi market, intending to invest $1.4 billion alongside partners by 2030.

Concurrently, Akdital is developing its presence in the United Arab Emirates. A multidisciplinary hospital and specialized oncology centre are under construction in Dubai, with an expected opening in the third quarter of 2027.

This regional expansion is fueled by strong domestic performance. Akdital currently operates 41 hospitals across 24 Moroccan cities, with a total capacity of 4,111 beds. The company recently reported a 55% surge in its 2024 revenue, which reached 2.95 billion dirhams ($320 million).
