Accelerating Sustainable Tourism Development in Southern Tunisia

The International Sahara and Oasis Tourism Fair (ISSOT) from December 3 to 5 in Tozeur.
This exclusive event will bring together some 300 key tourism players from various sub-sectors, including
tourism service and product providers, buyers (tour operators, travel agencies, guest houses, restaurants,
guides, hotels, artisans), tourism media, influencers and investors, at local, regional, national and international
levels.

The International Sahara and Oasis Tourism Fair aims to reach strategic positioning by redefining Saharan and Oasis tourism, ensuring sustainable innovation by aligning with the best practices, promoting the region’s attractions by highlighting the region’s distinctive qualities and promoting the South at local, and regional, national and international levels, supporting the development of tourism hubs and itineraries.

It also aims to develop sustainable and profitable synergies through public-private partnerships to enhance economic recovery and growth by Repositioning southern Tunisia, generating sales and contributing to economic growth, to the benefit of local communities in southern Tunisia.

All participants will have the opportunity to discover new experiences and market-ready tourism products and services in southern Tunisia and take part in round-table discussions as well as customised B2B activities that will lead to fruitful collaborations and increased bookings.

December 4 and 5 will be dedicated to thematic trips throughout the enchanting landscapes of southern
Tunisia’s oases and Saharan regions. These field trips will provide travel agencies, tour operators and the media
with an opportunity to discover a rich range of authentic cultural experiences.

These immersive tours will feature culinary discoveries, traditional costumes, mystical music and
demonstrations of local handicrafts such as pottery and embroidery. A total of 15 carefully designed itineraries
will enable tourism professionals to explore new offerings and forge links with local experience bearers,
further enhancing southern Tunisia’s potential as a top-tier destination for sustainable and authentic alternative
cultural tourism.

This event is a collaborative initiative between the public and private sectors and is the fruit of partnerships
with several key players, including the National Tourism Office (ONTT), the National Office for Tunisian Crafts (ONAT), the Tunisian Federation of Travel and Tourism Agencies (FTAV), the Tunisian Hospitality Federation (FTH), the USAID Visit Tunisia Activity, the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism, the Deutscher Reiseverband (DRV) and the Tunisia Foundation for Development.
