Flywheel Programme: 17 Tunisian start-ups selected to receive AIR and AIR² grants

Some 17 Tunisian start-ups have been selected to receive AIR and AIR² grants, as part of the second session of the Flywheel programme, piloted by Startup Tunisia with the support of the World Bank, GIZ Tunisia and the Caisse des dépôts et consignations Tunisia.

Flywheel, which is also a fund to support the actors of the Startup ecosystem in Tunisia, supports the launch and development of Startups and Startup support structures.

Its programme provides a structured solution based on financial instruments to address current challenges. Indeed, 11 projects have been selected to receive the grant named “AIR”, supporting the development of the POC (Proof of Concept) of startups.

This grant compensates for the lack of funding opportunities and the scarcity of funding for business angles in the earliest phase of their life cycle. This instrument, which amounts to 30,000 Tunisian dinars (TD), is composed of 60% grants and 40% reimbursable grants.

In addition, 6 startups, more advanced in their development cycle, have been selected to benefit from AIR²; an investment readiness grant awarded to startups in the seed phase.

This grant, whose value varies between TND 150,000 and TND 200,000, is only awarded to startups that have demonstrated strong growth potential.

AIR and AIR² grants are awarded following a call for applications and an evaluation process by an independent and competent selection committee. The next round of new grants will open on 3 January 2022.
