Three Innovators Compete for the Title of Best Arab Innovator
The popular science and innovation program Stars of Science, an initiative by Qatar Foundation, has revealed the three finalists competing in the 17th season’s grand finale. Representing Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Jordan, the finalists are bringing forward groundbreaking ideas that merge technology, science, and social impact.
The finalists — Razan Salem Bahabri from Saudi Arabia, Eid Derdabo from Algeria, and Mohammad Sheikh Saleh from Jordan — are vying for the title of Best Arab Innovator, with the winner and runner-up sharing the grand prize based on jury deliberations and public voting.
Razan Salem Bahabri, a Saudi biomedical engineering doctoral candidate, developed an innovative wearable interactive gaming system that aids stroke patients in their rehabilitation journey. Her invention merges therapy and technology to create an engaging recovery experience. “I wanted to prove that science can be a personal, empathetic tool that empowers patients rather than treating them as passive participants,” she said.
From Algeria, Eid Derdabo, who holds a Ph.D. in animal physiology and nutrition, created a smartwatch system capable of monitoring key biomarkers to detect vitamin D and serotonin levels — helping identify risks of depression and anxiety early. Inspired by a personal story, Derdabo explained, “I made a promise to myself after witnessing a relative’s struggle with undiagnosed depression. Stars of Science gave me the tools to turn that promise into a real-world solution.”
Meanwhile, Jordanian innovator Mohammad Sheikh Saleh, who earned his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering in the United States, introduced an AI-powered system for monitoring electric vehicle batteries. His invention supports global sustainability goals by optimizing battery performance and reducing carbon emissions. “My aim is to drive real change in advancing trust and efficiency in electric mobility technologies across the Arab region,” he said.

Throughout the season, the finalists have transformed their concepts into viable prototypes through rigorous testing, mentorship, and collaboration, supported by Qatar Science & Technology Park and a network of international experts and program alumni.
Public voting is now open until October 23 at 3 p.m. GMT (6 p.m. Doha time) on the Stars of Science website, where audiences can help choose the region’s top innovator. The season finale airs on October 24 at 9 p.m. Doha time, when the winner of Season 17 will be officially announced.
