A seminar on “the development of digital banking and payment means,” was organised Tuesday at the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) headquarters.
The gathering focused on the development of urgent proposals to encourage digital banking transactions, with a view to their integration into the 2019 finance law.
It also aims to provide a platform for exchange between the various economic players involved in payment means and electronic exchange, to discuss and agree on the actions to be taken as regards decashing, mobile payment and open banking.
President of the UTICA National Federation of Information and Communication Technology Kais Sellami said this measure aims to limit the use of bank liquidity with a view to reducing transactions on the black market.
The objective is also to take measures likely to develop the use of the bank card and to generalise its use in all the trading spaces and public administrative structures, especially as the bank card is essentially used in Tunisia (at 85 %) for the withdrawal of money, while other financial transactions via the internet, do not exceed 15%.
The event is an occasion to look for ways to overcome the obstacles to the development of digital transactions that are lagging in Tunisia, including the commission deducted on the use of bank cards and the citizen’s lack of confidence in digital transactions.
The event organised by the National ICT Federation in collaboration with the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) and the Professional Association of Banks.
The Governor of the Central Bank, the Secretary of State for Digital Economy, the President of UTICA, the President of the Professional Association of Banks as well as several bank managers and experts in the financial field attend the event.
Several economic actors are also taking part in the seminar, namely companies, banks, electronic payment institutions, IT services companies, Start-ups, Telecom Operators and e-trade companies.
