Mr. President,
I come from Tunisia, a country which began the process to ban slavery in 1841 and ratified it in 1846. Not just the first Muslim country but one of the first in Africa and ahead of many European and South American’s states, including your country.
I honestly believe that your statement on displacing the Palestinian inhabitants of Gaza for you to claim ownership of their ancestral land is absurd.
First you give Israel the weapons to destroy Gaza’s infrastructure and give its extremist radical leaders the green light to kill, mutilate tens of thousands of its native population and deprive them of water, medicine and food. Then, after the dirty work is done by your acolytes, you want to turn this sovereign territory, owned by Palestinians since times immemorial, into a prosperous “Riviera” for the rich of your kind to lavish in its spectacular vistas and enchanting beauty… , of course after rooting out its defenseless legitimate population and ethnically cleansing them…
Free people around the globe, including in your own country, are saying NO to your insane proposal, which, far from bringing peace and stability into the region, will throw it, nay the whole world into endless turmoil.
This proposal of yours sets a dangerous precedent. According to your logic the strong are allowed to crush the weak and drive them out of their ancestral territories through sheer use of arms.
The message you want to convey to the world carries with it serious consequences, chief among which are:
- The so called post-World War II order, harboring principles enshrined by the UN Charter, such as self-determination and rejection of unlawful occupation and forcible displacement will crumble down.
- New blocks will emerge to establish a fresh world order which will take into account the interests of new powers that have proved to be economically stronger and more effective than your nation.
- Your proposal runs counter to the Declaration of Independence of your own country which solemnly stipulates the following in its preamble:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
It goes without saying that the confirmation of these “inalienable rights”, that ought to encompass all members of the human species, including the Palestinian nation, Netanyahu notwithstanding, should be part and parcel of the American ethos and that any contravention to these principles should be denounced by all US citizens as an act of treason.
- Your statement about the forced displacement of a people from their ancestral territories, contravenes the essence of the American ethos. The Texas representative Al Green has rightly described your plan as “dastardly deed” that amounted to “ethnic cleansing”. As such he’s bringing articles of impeachment against your proposal to “take over Gaza”. He has justified his move by featuring Dr Luther King’s famous adage:” Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America”.
I, for one, as a humble citizen of the world, would disavow you as a world leader and I would confidently assume that all right thinking people on our planet earth would gleefully follow suit!
